Vault Disney – A Look Back and A Step Forward

In July of 2015, I visited Disney World for the very first time and proposed to the love of my life just after the fireworks show.  It was, and still is, the best day of my life.  Yet, not JUST because of the proposal.  That day awakened a love of not just Disney in my, but a love a sharing my passion for creativity, magic and the belief that wishes really could come true.  At the time, I had been running Jaysen Headley Writes for nearly a year and had all but given up on it.  I got a couple views a day if I was lucky and had only 25 followers.  Not what I was hoping for after a year.  I’d wanted to start a blog where I could put all my work together in one place and all that had come of it was one more website I never updated.  Yet, after visiting Disney, I realized that I wanted to relive all the memories of my childhood.  I wanted to watch every Disney film in order.  And not only that.  I wanted to learn about them, find out how Disney got from where it started to where it is now.  It would be this massive research project.  Armed with little more than my computer, I started down the rabbit hole with a young lady named Snow White.

Here was the plan.  We would watch two movies a week and I would release an article in the Vault Disney series every Sunday and Wednesday until we got through every film.  We would watch them on my computer and I would pause frequently to take pictures.  Then, I would research the film and put together an article about my impressions of the film as well as the history of it.  Start out, this was an easy feat.  After all, most of the early films are super short and quick to get through.  But as we headed into the package film era it became evident that I would have to push myself through some of these.

As we went, I would often write the article on my lunch breaks, only to post it later that night and every day I was learning more and more about blogging and finding my audience.  I slowly started to see my traffic increase and what was more wonderful was that several of you reached out and told me what you liked or didn’t like about the films I was watching.  And therein lies that magic that began to happen.

The part of this series that has been so amazing is just how many of you reached out and shared your own thoughts and then did it every week!  Some of you, I’ve come to actually expect to leave a comment and when you don’t I wonder what I’ve done wrong!  And by giving me the feedback, it gave me the strength to keep going.  I say it a lot on this blog but you guys have filled my life with so much awesome that I barely know what to do with it.

Writing about Disney is interesting because while watching all these films about dreams coming true and magic being real and love conquering all, you actually start to believe it.  I found myself constantly being motivated by the words of Walt himself.  And even more, I found myself reading books, hunting down fun stories and things that moved me in hopes of finding something truly special to share with all of you!  It’s a bit magical that in research the work of a man who dared to dream, I myself was starting to dream bigger.

Happiest. Day. Ever.

So here we are, 55 movies later.  I now blog nearly every day.  I constantly look for ways to connect better with my audience and I am so proud of the blog I’ve created and continue to create.  I’m thankful every day for all of you who make it so wonderful and it is because of that fact that I now realize we have much left to do.  Starting next week, I will be introducing two new series to this blog.  One will be Disney themed and if you’ve been paying attention you’ll probably be able to guess that one.  The other will not be Disney themed.  I’ve discovered that I love to write about the things that I love and my hope is that I can take another passion of mine and share that with all of you as well.

Below, you will find all of the articles in the series.  Read them and enjoy and make sure to let me know about your thoughts and feelings on these films.  In fact, if you love them as much as me, I encourage you to watch every single one in order.  You’ll be amazed at what a transformative, educational experience it can be.  Today is the last day of the first real chapter of this blog.  Now we head into the next chapter, a little bit wiser and lot more excited for what is to come next.
