8 Tips for Playing Magic Kingdoms

Hello my fellow park building warriors.  I thought I might do an update on where I am in the game now that we are past the 60 day mark and well into the new update.  However, I felt like that might be a bit boring all on its own.  So, instead, I’ve decided to share my top 8 TIPS for playing the game.  Being as I have been writing about the game since launch, I’ve received a lot of questions.  Hopefully this will help to answer some of them, as well as give you some new ideas.  Alright, put your Merlin hats on and let’s get started.

#1 – Be Patient

I have talked about this one A LOT here, but I think that when playing a game that is 100% built around wait timers this is super important to remember.  I don’t just mean to be patient while waiting.  I also mean to be patient in achieving progress in the game.

img_6966

Donald could also learn a little patience.

I am telling you, at least once a day I get asked this question: “I am out of Goofy Quests but I still have not unlocked Pete.  What do I do?”  The answer?  Be Patient.  The thing about this game is that characters’ quests don’t unlock the way we might thing.  You can’t just do one character’s quests and hope to progress.  You have to do all the quests available to you if you hope to open more quests.  So you’re out of Goofy’s quests?  Who’s quests do you have?  Do those next.  Chances are, those will open up something new and eventually Goofy will come to call again.

img_6823

Good things come to those who wait.

We’re going to circle back to Be Patient a lot in this post so I think it’s a good place to start, especially given the next one on the list.

#2 – Game Glitches and Contacting Gameloft

“My game is glitching!  What should I do?”  I love love love that you guys ask me this, because it means that I’ve built a confidence with you guys.  I love that, but at the end of the day, I am powerless to stop your glitching concerns.

Here’s what you can do.  Close the app entirely, then restart your device.  For most issues, this usually does the trick.

BUT, let’s say it doesn’t.  By clicking the little blue box in the upper right, you can open the options menu.  From there, click on the Customer Care button in the bottom corner.

img_6987

Here, you can see the Known Issues, and some fixes, as well as report your issue.  This is important for several reasons.  First off, if you don’t report it, there’s definitely no way it will magically get fixed.  There’s a good chance that if you are having the problem, someone else is too.  Also, keep in mind that Gameloft WANTS you to keep playing.  This means that they WANT to fix your issue.

img_6988

But, let’s circle back and remember to BE PATIENT.  They have thousands of customers over several games.  If your issue isn’t fixed right away, understand that it might take a little extra time, but they are working on it.  Relax.  Deep breaths.  We’ll get through this together.

#3 – Build, Build and Build Some More

I cannot say this enough.  Don’t allow empty space if you can help it.  The more attractions you have, the more potions and XP you have, the more visitors you have, the more quests you can do.  The list goes on.

img_6805

By building new attractions, you are able to attract more visitors but you’ll also earn more potions which is important as things can get rather expensive in this game.  The number one thing that holds me back from progress is usually potions and needing to get enough of them so build a lot and do it early.

img_6821

The economy in this game can be rough.

If you are going to build a whole bunch of one type of building in order to “Farm” resources, pick one that is to your playstyle.  If you only check the game every Four hours, then don’t build a bunch of burger stands which refresh every five minutes.  Try going for a hat or pretzel stand which takes a bit longer.  That way you’ll get the most out of that check-in.

#4 – Participate in Events

I know a lot of people are already participating when the ravens show up or the brooms start patroling your park, but I think it’s also important to not give up just because you’re not on the leader board.  These events are designed to give potion and XP boosts so make sure to take advantage.  Just be participating you’ll earn some extra potions and get one step closer to that next level.

img_6972

Also, now that we have Mini-Events, there’s even more reason to jump into the fun.  With tiers of rewards that allow you to unlock park decorations, gems and potions, it makes all kinds of sense to have fun and participate in these events, even if you aren’t going to be #1.

img_6973

Ohhh, is that me in second?  Why yes it is!

#5 – Level Up Your Characters

If ever you need to level up a character to progress in the story, the game will let you know, BUT, there are plenty of optional quests that can only be achieved by leveling up.  Tinker Bell is a great example of this.  Only by leveling her up will you come to realize that she has new quests for you.

img_6827

Make sure to always slowly be leveling up everyone.  Nothing is worse that getting to a quest that requires Mickey to be a level 10 and he is only at 5.  Making little progression in this part of the game every day can make a huge difference.

#6 – Visit Friends

Make sure to take a little time every day to hit that social button.  Visiting friends allows your visitors to go up a bit faster but it’s also great to see how their park is coming along.  After all, these parks are more fun if we get to show them off, right?

MAKE! IT! STOP!

It is also good because if someone is way ahead of you, you can get an idea of how they got there.  Sharing strategies and learning how others play is all part of the fun.

#7 – Take time to Appreciate the Little Things

I find that in this game, it can be easy to open it up, click, click, click and close again.  Who cares what Pluto is doing or how long it will take, just do it.  But once again, slow down.  Be patient.  There is some magnificent detail built into this game and a lot of fan service, if you’re willing to take the time to look for it.

img_6834

Like how Mother Gothel has the sassiest poses.

From Mike Swinging Celie Mae in mad circles for hours, to Wall-E protecting EVE only to get electrocuted to Mickey and Minnie dancing joyfully, there is so much fun to be had by watching all the little things these characters do.  If you take the time to zoom in and check them out, I promise you will enjoy the game at least a little bit more.

img_6969

Or this friggin amazing float.

#8 – Participate in the Community

This one is huge for me.  The community for this game is so fun and excitable.  I love seeing folks on my facebook feed sharing their progress and getting excited about new characters.  Often times, these are the folks reminding me to slow down and smell the roses by posting pictures and videos of ridiculous character interactions.  Whether it’s a Facebook fan group, of which there are several, or a Twitter club or maybe just getting your friends to play, I totally recommend taking part in the community.

img_6989

As a side note, I love that my mother has also become a fan and now posts in the Facebook group we are in even more than I do.  It also helps to have a sounding board for any issues you might be having.

Game Update

Well that’s about it for my tips.  As promised, I will let you know that this morning I have just unlocked Aurora.  As of now, I have not seen a fairy promotion, but it is worth buying the extra fairy in order to unlock other fairies as well as Aurora faster.

img_6985

I will also say that Donald is extremely challenging to get.  All his items needed take forever and have low drop rates so make sure to exercise that Be Patient tip when trying to achieve him.

img_6964

I really hope we get to fight Maleficent soon.  I’m ready!

Who are we hoping for in the next update?  Let me know in the comments.

  1. I really enjoy your posts on DMK! They help prepare me for what’s to come, since you are further along (I’m a few hours away from having Flynn). Can’t complain much about the character choices – Wall•e is my absolute favorite. However, for the next update I’d love to see Stitch with tomorrowland expand, Peter Pan, Snow White characters, and frozen characters (yeah I said it. I think the potential Elsa animations would be really unique). I also have a feeling we will see an Alice in wonderland update sooner than later.
    Who are you hoping for?

  2. Hi! I just wanted to comment on your “upgrade characters” point from this blog post. While I agree that upgrading should be done fairly frequently, I do wonder if assuming the game will let you know when upgrading is necessary is actually true. As an example, I have been working to gather potions for a few days now with no pending quests (other than opening various characters), but I decided today to upgrade Mike. Although there were no prompts to upgrade Mike, there were a couple of action items in his list that were above his current level, and I felt like it was time. As soon as his upgrade was complete, I was prompted with an exclamation point over his head!! YAY! So, I would also say that monitoring as-yet unopened action items for characters (“Upgrade Roz to level 4”) is a good way to know when to invest in a character’s next level. A clue, rather than a game-issued prompt. 🤗

    • This is a great point. I will say that if it is necessary to continue the main story, the game will let you know. Otherwise, some quests that are free standing do show up upon upgrading. Thanks for the comment!

      • I totally agree. Great clarification, thank you!
And I forgot to say “thank you” before: you are doing an amazing & entertaining job keeping we DMK dweebs informed. It’s a great blog, kook. 👏🏼👊🏻

  3. Regarding the idea to “build build build”, I wonder if you might consider a blog post on the most cost-effective attractions/concessions. For example, I just now purchased Sword in the Stone for a whopping 75,000 potion. At 200 potion every 12 hours, assuming I manage to click it the instant it’s ready every time, it will take 187.5 days – over six MONTHS – to recoup what I spent on it. I’m having buyer’s remorse now, and thinking I shouldn’t have been so tempted to spend all the excess potion I’d built up while I’m focusing on the Incredibles event. Would you say that’s a typical rate of return for buildings, or was I foolish to buy it?

    • Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll take a look into it. In general though, I will say that the less time it takes, the more it will actually provide per hour. That said, this means you have to check your game far more often to get the full value out of it, which is easier for some than others. Sword in the stone also provides a token for sleeping beauty characters though and that can make it far more worth it given the long waits for these tokens.

  4. Do you know if there is a way to stop the game if you are going to be away for an extended period of time? I hate to lose my progress and happiness.

    • There is not that I’m aware of. You wouldn’t lose progress. But your happiness would go down. Luckily that’s not something that’s terribly hard to reaccumulate.

  5. This last update 1.6 I know can’t log into the game. It keeps telling me there is no internet service and I have full service. This has never happened before until it did this update on its own. Good lord I hope I haven’t lost everything I won’t be very happy. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank you.

  6. can i ask a question .i’m starting playing magic kingdom almost a month. i notice that every time my level increase the game glitches and asking for downloading content .. but its ok, i can still play the game but today when i open it my account is lost and it back to start(level 1) when i connect it to my facebook account ..it doesnt retrieve .. can you help me ?

  7. I’ve only just started playing about a week ago, but I’m already getting frustrated with trying to level Prince Charming to level 2.

  8. Hopefully we will receive the first original Disney princess “SnowWhite” and the sweet Ariel! I’m only at level 16 and have soooo many more characters and cursed lands to open, but hopefully patience will be self rewarding! 😊

  9. I’d love to see Moana and Co. particularly the pig and chicken would be a lot of fun. My attractions list had disappeared completely and customer services have not been much help. hoping this doesn’t stop me progressing as those attractions should become available to me.

  10. I have a question concerning happiness levels. My routine goes like this; First I harvest all waiting rewards then I open my chests as the cards will often help boost my happiness level and I want to see where that number lands before I start granting wishes. I often end up with an excess after opening my chests so consequently I often end up with six or eight guests running around with unharvested happiness floating above their ecstatic little heads. I have been waiting to harvest it until my number goes down far enough to need it. My question is this; If I harvest it all at once and I’m already at my 99-100% am I “wasting” those hard earned points? I’ve tried this option as well and I can’t say that I have noticed my happiness level staying at full longer after “overfilling” the tank so to speak. I suppose the same could be asked of my chest happiness winnings? Of one chest takes me to full and I earn more points beyond that on my other two chests, am I actually getting the benefit of those points or are they just wasted?

  11. How long does it take to get more ground space? I’ve gotten all the space to the left of the roller coaster and to the right, including the coaster. The two spaces on either of the front or back of the coaster, keep saying do more goofys quests. How long? lol I’ve got tons of buildings to place and no space

    • The events don’t seem to repeat. You can purchase (for real money) chests that may contain the characters you want. Recently there was an event that allowed you to get characters from previous events. For example Jack Skellington was given free in a recent event but in order to progress with him in the event you had to purchase Sally.
