Disney Magic Kingdoms – The Sleeping Beauty Update

What a treat we got last night as we logged into our Disney Magic Kingdom game!  Mere hours after a teaser on their facebook page that Aurora was coming to the game, we got our first true update with new additions to the game.  And while I am super excited to see new characters, there is also plenty more to talk about here, so let’s dive right in!

First off, I want to start by listing the additions that Gameloft officially has posted as additions to the game.

  •  New Characters!  Aurora, Prince Phillip, Fauna, Flora and Merryweather.  Plus:  Donald Duck and Mother Gothel.
  • New Storylines!  The mysterious tale of Maleficent’s evil curse continues with new storyline content from Disney’s Tangled.
  • New Attractions!  Aurora’s Spinning Wheel, Fairy Hut, Fantasy Fair, Snuggly Duckling, and Donald’s Boat.
  • New Decorations! 15-Layer Cake and Bronzed Briar Rose.
  • New Quests! More than 100 brand-new quests to complete!
  • New Parade Float for Sleeping Beauty!
  • Bug Fixes and Minor Improvements

Okay, that’s a lot of stuff.  Let’s break it down, shall we?

Sleeping Beauty Characters

Obviously the biggest addition is the Sleeping Beauty Characters.

Based on clicking on these characters it seems that Minnie quests will eventually lead to unlocking the fairies, which will then lead to unlocking Aurora and the Prince.  I can also say, as I am mere hours away from being able to unlock Rapunzel, that these characters will not be available to add until after that.  So, if you are still working your way through Tomorrowland, don’t expect to see that Beauty sleeping anytime soon.

I am also very excited to see that our two “Coming Soon” characters are finally going to be coming…soon…  Donald and Mother Gothel now show that they are on the roster and will be showing up down the quest chain in the very near future.

Attractions and Floats

Yes, it’s true, we have more new attractions to unlock as well as a new parade float, which I’m sure will come in handy when trying to unlock those pesky fairies.

The new attractions seem very cool, especially Donald’s Boat.  The new decorations are fine but personally I find that there is rarely enough room in my park for decorations.  They are always the first thing to go.

Another new attraction that will soon be unlocked is “It’s a Small World,” which no longer reads Coming Soon!

Improvements and Such

There seem to be a lot of minor new things to talk about here as well that aren’t even mentioned in the update.  For starters, Characters now automatically pop into the corner with a check mark when a quest is complete, making it no longer necessary to search them out!  You can also easily see who is ready for a level up by looking at the character page and seeing who has an exclamation point above their head.

You might also notice that clicking on attractions to gain potions is much easier.  I feel like a no longer need to pound my finger into my screen just to collect my burger stand potions!

BUT this comes with a price.  Burger Stands no longer produce 5 potions as before.  They only do 2 at a time now.  Will this be the end of Burger Farming??? Only time will tell.

Many wait times have been reduced.  18 Hour quests for Pete’s Ears now have been reduced to 8 hours and sometimes less.  BUT based on reports, it seems that many characters now require many more items to unlock and upgrade so if you hadn’t finished welcoming someone before the update, you may be in for a surprise.  It does seem that the wait time of all of this will simply even out.  You need more stuff but the stuff takes less time to get soooo tit for tat?

Even costs have gone down.  The big one is the second land piece in Fantasy Land which is now a mere 65,000 potions, down from 250,000.

I feel bad for whoever paid the full amount!

And FINALLY, the other new thing you might notice is that those pesky ravens are gone during our non-raven event.  My understanding is that many bugs have been fixed as well.  My mother, who hasn’t had parades since week 1, now has them up and running again.  It seems things are looking grand for the future of the Magic Kingdom.

Coming Soon!

I wanted to make one mention of Frontierland.  Last wee, if you had looked over there to try and get a glimpse, you would see nothing more than grey land.  Now, it seems that you can actually see a bit of the landscape over there!

There’s a pond and everything!  I’m guessing that our next expansion might be hitting days of Disney past!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the update.  It fixes a lot of little things and adds just enough to keep my going.  I’m happy to see more classic animated characters as some may know I mentioned that there weren’t enough in my last post.  If you’ve read my Vault Disney posts, you’ll know that Sleeping Beauty is not anywhere near my favorite but I’ll take anything I can get at this point with this game.  I’m happy to see lower costs and less wait times as I think this will keep many who were getting a bit fed up invested in the game.  It also just means that Gameloft is listening to the community and that is ALWAYS a good thing.

Let me know what you think of the update below and I’ll see you next time!

  1. You also may note that in the credits it shows that “So This Is Love” as a song, let the speculation begin that Cinderella is the next upgrade!

  2. Great post. Overall I’m happy with the updates, although it did set me back on getting Pete. And the darn burger stand magic stinks. Also with this update my notifications have gone crazy. I get all kinds of notifications for tasks that were completed long before. Anyone else seeing this?

  3. If you missed an event (I missed Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty because I had not yet started playing), can you ever unlock the characters?
